WebRTC Leak Test
Check if your browser is leaking your real IP address through WebRTC
Understanding WebRTC Leaks
WebRTC (Web Real-Time Communication) is a technology that enables peer-to-peer communication in web browsers for features like video calls and file sharing. While useful, it can bypass VPN tunnels and expose your actual IP address.
Why WebRTC Leaks Matter
When a WebRTC leak occurs, websites can detect your true IP address even when you're using a VPN. This undermines your privacy and potentially reveals:
- Your approximate geographical location
- Your internet service provider
- A unique identifier that can be used to track you
How to Fix WebRTC Leaks
Option 1: Use a VPN with WebRTC Protection
Premium VPNs often include built-in protection against WebRTC leaks. Make sure to choose a VPN that specifically mentions WebRTC leak protection as a feature.
Option 2: Browser Extensions
Several browser extensions can disable or control WebRTC functionality:
- Chrome: WebRTC Leak Prevent, WebRTC Control
- Firefox: Disable WebRTC
- Edge: WebRTC Privacy
Option 3: Browser Settings
Adjust your browser settings to prevent WebRTC leaks:
- Firefox: Enter "about:config" in the address bar, search for "media.peerconnection.enabled" and set it to "false"
- Chrome: Unfortunately, Chrome doesn't offer a built-in setting to disable WebRTC completely
- Brave: Go to Settings > Security and Privacy > WebRTC IP Handling Policy > Select "Disable Non-Proxied UDP"
Protect Your Privacy with a VPN
While you're currently protected against WebRTC leaks, using a trusted VPN provides additional privacy benefits.
